Wednesday Day 41 of 2011 2012

We started out with CNN students
Israel and Palestine reached an agreement.  It was a trade of one Israeli soldier, who was released yesterday, for 1,027 Palestinian prisoners who will be released in two stages.  More Libya news with secretary of state Hillary Clinton’s recent visit to their country.  They then discussed Las Vegas and its down economy, its  14.2% unemployment and what the city is trying to do to rebound.  We discussed the on-going drought in Texas because they showed an amazing dust storm.  Finally we learned about the “future” of motorcycles and economic traveling.  We discussed oil reserves, the cost of oil and the American large car mindset.

Heritage Project/Filming and DEAR time...
We have now recorded 20 of the 30 heritage projects.  At the end of this project, we will send home a DVD and you can see the final product.

Reading and Writing:
We continued our Alabama/Auburn reading comprehension and writing.  We completed their compare and contrast Venn diagrams.
We then discussed what is an effective compare and contrast essay and the two most common ways of creating a document.

Science
Complete the study guide prior to Tuesday.  That is the day of the big test.

Prepare mentally and behaviorally for tomorrow’s earthquake drill.  I believe strongly how you practice is how you will act during the real event.  So I emphasized that jokes, unnecessarily making loud or fear inducing noises will NOT be tolerated and we talked how all our actions can keep everyone safe.

Math:
The big thing is to prepare for the chapter 5 test.  The key concepts, the ideas of variables/expressions and most importantly, orders of operations.
Here are our notes on Orders of Operations

Parents can only give good advice or put them on the right paths, but the final forming of a person's character lies in their own hands.
