CNN students
The earthquake in Turkey and how the situation is made more difficult by the chilly weather.   The first democratic elections in Tunisia since 1956.  They are writing a brand new constitution so we talked about our Constitution and our Bill of Rights.  The “Arab Spring” = bad time to be a dictator and maybe a great time to discover democracy?  We then talked about ambassadors and why being a USA ambassador in the Commonwealth of the Bahamas may be a cushier job that the ambassador in Syria.   We then had more “jobs bill”  talk with President Obama being in California, Colorado and Nevada.      Finally they had a great demonstration of the “Kind Campaign”;  it focuses on girls bullying other girls.  Their website has a ton of resources, if you have a daughter, it may be worth check them out.

Social Studies -- we have now covered all of their 10 Bill of Rights.  We discussed them as a class and gave several examples.   We then went over some of the on-line resources they could use.  Here is the on-line resources.
**The poster is now due on Tuesday, November 1st.

Math:
Prime number?  Or composite number?   We reviewed yesterday’s lesson on divisibility rules.  We then used those rules to decide if a number is a prime number or a composite number.
Here are the notes from today
Here is a khan video on finding factoring
On www.ixl.com -- all the K lessons found in “Number Theory” of 5th grade would be great skills to master.

Universal Access:   Creating the mother of all fraction book.   An amazing fraction keepsake with various self-created examples of different types of fractions!!  This will be super helpful as we go through the fraction chapters.

On Friday we are watching A Princess Bride, it is PG so we require your written permission.
Here is the document to print up and sign that it is ok for them to watch the movie.  I also included links to sites that will give you a review from a parent’s perspective.
