Day 35 of 2011 2012 Tuesday

Day 35
Today we learned about Egypt and the desire for religious freedom and how our Bill of Rights allow us to have religious freedom.  We then learned about Hurricane Jova that will be hitting Mexico.  They had a little discussion on Fleet Week and a special focus on San Francisco and the Blue Angels.  They also interviewed several people who are assembling for the Occupy Wall Street movement.  We tied this into our Bill of Rights and how it allows us to have Freedom of Speech and Freedom to Assemble.   We also saw how many retail stores are begining to hire for the holiday season.  This tied into yesterday’s discussion on our 9.1% unemployment rate.   Finally we talked about how the state of California will no longer allow children under the age o f18 to use a tanning booth.

We then reviewed last night’s math homework.  We used the response devices and the class did really really well.

They then began taking their topic 4 test.

We then had a surprise assembly dedicated to Mr. Haar.   Watching the appreciative response from the kids, observing the hard work put forth by the parents to do this surprise and looking at all the wet-eyes in the multipurpose room during the presentations, it was easy to see how Mr. Haar has created a legacy here in the Dublin community.   The whole event reminded me of this “Got Legacy?” last week when someone was remember Steve Jobs.

You can read it here because it really applies to today’s events and the work that Mr. Haar put in here at Dublin and Nielsen Elementary.   Please read the article in its entirety, but here is my favorite passage:
Your legacy is created with every action you take, with every achievement you make and with every victory you create.
Everyday you are leaving your mark, your legacy consists of your failures and your recoveries.
Your legacy matters not just to you, but also to all those who follow you, care for you and emulate you.
Your legacy matters to all who seek to be loved by you and who you seek to love. Your teaching, your philosophy, you wisdom, your knowledge will leave a wake long after you are gone.
Your legacy makes a difference.

Aft er the assembly the students took a solar system test with Mrs. Wilmott.

They returned from science and many of the students continued working on their math test.

They ended the day with universal access and they continued working on X Y axis and graphing.

If your son/daughter would like to dunk me on Friday, I will be at the dunk tank from 5:00-5:30.
