Thursday, #32 2012 2013 (10/11/12)

With the A’s playing tonight and some kids interested in the Vice President’s debate I tried to give the students ample opportunity to lesson their homework responsibilities for tonight.

Through a series of rotations every student was extended the opportunity to work 40 minutes on the computer and then 40 minutes to work silently at their desks on homework.  Therefore students were able to complete free-writes, complete math homework, all other types of homework, practice division on IXL.com, brainpops and their European Explorer reports.

We had the library today and the kids did a great job actively participating in the circle read and staying quiet as the library is also being used for intervention real-estate.

We had a celebration regarding our school’s 50 point growth with the state’s API scores.    The kids were a big reason for the jump since their class accounted for ¼ of the scores.  So we took time out to pat ourselves on the back.

Math-- We reviewed a few of the Singapore methods for last night’s division problems.
Test is tomorrow.

CNN Students:
Day of the Girl is today.  We discussed a story of a young girl that spoke out against gender bias and the need for all her people to be educated and how Taliban bullies brought her physical harm.
We also discussed tonight’s Vice President debate with Biden versus Ryan.

We rotated today with the students continuing to learn about space.

Then the rotated to Mrs. Cho’s class and continued practicing with math/art.

At some point in the day we were able to focus on our priorities and we caught this live as it happened.

Social Studies -- this week Mrs. Cooper and the students have been learning all about the checks & balances and the three branches of our Federal government.

Once again the students were literally given 80 minutes to work on homework, practice skills or research for projects therefore homework should be somewhat mellow.

Kind regards,

Mr. Hubbard
