Monday, #24 2012 2013 (10/01/12)

Discover Center in Livermore. Site of our Wed. field trip.
Day 24

It was a hot Monday in Dublin...heck, it still is a hot day in Dublin.   100+?

P.E.  first thing in the morning before all the heat hit.

Spelling Pretest
Volcanoes are this week’s words

Seaman -- winter with the Mandans.  It was cold, it was low on food and they had a ton of time sitting in a small room, dancing and talking.

Lewis and Clark -- Also learned about the winter with the Mandans.   It dropped to the temperature of -35 degrees.  Toes were frostbitten & lost and Sacagawea somehow successfully delivered her little boy, Jean Baptiste Charbonneau.

Math:
More practice with division.....
Here are our notes from today.
Students need to follow this format all week:
1. Write the original problem down
2.  Do a “quick” estimate
3.  Solve the problem using one of the non traditional methods.

Cnn Students / Notes and Inference Skills
Topics that we discussed and wrote about today:
Syria -- what is a “civil war?”  ;  Supreme Court -- how long do you serve?  why an odd # of justices? ; How does the hot weather and corn not growing well affect the price of meat?;   What is the “new” way to farm fish?  ;  The new government regulations regarding food and calories, ensuring students eat healthy versus the government staying out of my diet;  Finally, who is Whitney Kropp and how did she overcome bullying?

Plan, prioritize and get a head start on the week ahead.
Students were given 30 minutes to write everything down in their day planner and begin working on homework.
Many students chose to use the time wisely while a handful of students did not stay focused during those precious 30 minutes.

Field Trip is on Wednesday.
It runs from 8:30-Noon’ish;   We are back before lunch.   However student do miss out on their snack time and it is not practical to eat at the laboratory during exhibits and presentations.   I suggest the students have a slightly larger than normal breakfast.

The book report requirements.

I handed this out on Friday and we discussed.  Students are given freedom to be as creative or as “non” creative as they want.  Also if they want to do something else, just send me an email or come talk with me.
Here are the requirements.

Kind regards,
Mr. Hubbard
