Monday, #34 2012 2013 (10/15/12)

Happy Monday! Day 34!

We returned to our late summer weather.   Maybe fall in Northern California will only be 4 days this year?

Quick today because the Giants are on and I had Devin duty after school.  My wife who is also a teacher, her school held their conferences this week).

Today’s breakdown:

P.E.  - Volleyball is going on right now.

Upon the return to class, everyone completed our weekly spelling pretest, the students completed their chapter 4 test, worked on ixl, and began some of the homework for the week.

We then read some Seaman.  Today we learned how Seaman protected the entire Corp of Discovery from night roaming buffaloes and even grizzlies.

Math - all about statistics.
Now that we have mastered division we are going to use that skill.  Students are going to compute average, median, mode and range.
Most of the notes today were taken while we watched Brainpop’s movie on statistics.
Here are the notes:
Here is the brainpop movie
Here is the Khan academy lesson on today’s statistic lessons.
Here is the Khan academy examples of median, mode and range.
Students were also offered an opportunity for extra credit.  They need to memorize the a statistics “rap” and perform it either live or video/edit it and send it to me.
Here is the rap.

CNN for students --
Ideas that we discussed today (we had discussions, the students did not write and take notes due to time constraints).
The European Union earned the Nobel Peace Prize; spanish words are everywhere in our modern day English, the Endeavour makes it way through Los Angeles and we watched the interview with the man that jumped down 24 miles and broke the sound barrier.

Kind regards,
Mr. Hubbard
