Mini-Dear time
Lesson on how to effectively read non-fiction stories.
We covered author’s perspective, the context of why the author is writing and why do people choose to write non-fiction.
This week’s reading is focusing on two articles that cover the Auburn/Alabama rivalry and the damage that was done to the famous trees located in the city of Auburn.

Here are pre-notes on what do we know about the University of Alabama and Auburn, the state of Alabama and college football. Here are the notes.
We will begin reading our 1st story tomorrow.

We continued our journey into using best practices towards multiplication.
We also re-reviewed the specific multiplication properties.

After math, the students had P.E. with Ms. L
Finally we ended the day with me modeling what they should write into their day-planner as I filled in the day planner of an absent student. Therefore once again their day-planner should be perfect considering I modeled it in real time and I have to write slow for my handwriting to be legible.
I then did a discussion about if someone read for only 10 minutes a day for the first 4 weeks of school they would have read 280 minutes so far (4.67 hours) while if someone read for 30 minutes per day for the first 4 weeks of school they would have read 840 minutes so far (14 hours).
For the entire school year at that rate -- the 10 minute person would read 41 hours
For the entire school year at that rate --the 30 minute person would read 122 hours
Reading, reading anything, is similar to exercising your brain.
Read about it here.
Finally Trevor at the end of the day showed a really cool game found on www.brainpop.com You can be the President of the U.S.A. for the day. It asks you a series of questions and you choose how you will respond. It is basically one of those “choose your own adventures” that we all loved as kids but now it is on-line.
Kind regards,
ind regards,
