The 17th day of 2011 2012

Day 17
Technology Thursday....

We started the day off at the computer lab.  We put in our practice with typing and then we spent a great deal of time watching Khan Academy videos.  It was great to see the students really get into the four videos.
Here is the link to our videos today.
We also are working on writing about and thinking about what it means to be a member of a learning community.  So many students began completing a survey about what responsibilities go into a learning community.

After technology, we had our first “real” library visit.  Many of the students found books and checked them out.  So I look forward to next Wednesday’s Reading Around the World page updates.

Immediately after library it was photo time.

We then spent the final hour before lunch working on math.
I will send out the notes from today, however click here for the styles of multiplication that we exposing your son and daughter to.

After lunch the students rotated over to Cargo for their Universal Access time.  I believe they worked on geometric shapes and art.

We ended our day reviewing our grammar lessons for the week:
plural nouns -- both traditional and non traditional plural forms
Here is a great break down of plural nouns and their many rules (with tons of examples)

We then had circle time where we began discussing “everyday” heros.  People shared who were the people in their lives that they considered heros.  They were not allowed to choose television/movie stars or comic book people.  We are talking about those that act courageously on a daily basis.
Some of our circle time questions and some upcoming writing will be based on this pdf from the Heroic Imagination Project.
