Day 10
Tuesday, September 6, 2011
Super late tonight due to both scholastic and then family commitments.
Today was a very unique day since we had our typical Monday P.E. on a Tuesday, the students rotated to Mrs. Cargo’s and Mrs. Wilmott’s class and we began taking a lengthy district math assessment.
We began the day with a district math assessment, it is 66 problems. Therefore we worked about 70+ minutes today and then we will work another 60+ minutes tomorrow morning. Once completed, students who show a strong mastery of the first trimester math concepts will be allowed to begin working on mid-year concepts.
We then did some work on tonight’s math concepts. It was rereview of last Thursday’s homework with an emphasis on using the distributive property. We are also making a concerted effort to estimate what our answer should be PRIOR to computing the correct answer.

We took this week’s spelling pre-test:
Here are the words
They then had their first visit with Mrs. Wilmott for science. She did assign science homework that is due on Wednesday.
They then had 25 minutes to write down all the homework for the week into their day planner. Students were encouraged to use the Tuesday evening to complete math, science and get a head start of some of the language arts work.
They then ended the day with Mrs. Cargo for the rotation that we are calling universal access time. Depending on skill levels and common assessments will be given work to either practice 5th grade standards or go beyond 5th grade standards.

"Believe in the hard work. Believe in the preparation. It's not a matter of if it'll work; it's a matter of when." Tony Sparano
**please note that I wrote "odd" on the board regarding tonight's math homework, I'm 100% responsible for the confusion. We actually did the odds last Thursday night, it was my intention they work on the evens tonight.
