Tuesday = a fast one

We made some serious head way on our theme 1 projects. Students were able to begin researching and crafting their projects. I was super super impressed by the commitment that many of the students were making in regards to working hard. We did put in 20 minutes on Mavis Beacon so we could continue working on perfecting our typing skills. Then the students had 75 minutes today to work on their projects. You know things are going well and learning is going on when the students groan when the recess bell rings. No one wanted to stop the momentum that we started. At the very end the student(s) were shown how to complete a project plan update and give me a status description of what they learned today and what they accomplished. Please ask your son/daughter what they learned and what they worked on today.

Math:

More work with the distributive/decomposing numbers...We had a few students still struggling with it. So as a class we roll modeled 3 more examples and we showed how each student could distribute a multiplier to make the calculation easier.

For example:

5215 * 36 = ?

Some students changed it to 5215*30 + 5215*6 =?

Some students changed it to 5215*16 + 5215*16 =?

While another student changed it to 5000*36 + 200*36 + 10*36+5*36 =?

We tried once again to rock the house during math with the response devices however my tablet is having Smartboard issues ever since I agreed to install new drivers. So my board doesn't work and now my response devices don't work. I literally had to take several breaths and find my happy place since having 25 students geared up to use our new toy and to have it not work is a recipe for anarchy and chaos.

After math we reviewed the final free writes from last week. The students enjoy hearing what others wrote and then we try and guess who wrote that piece.

We ended our day with me by reviewing the priority list and seeing what should be tackled today.

They ended the day with PE.

Kind Regards,

Mr. Hubbard
