Monday #117 2011 2012

Day 117 of the school year

A quick one today because today went super quick.

Based on our recent assessments, the class as a whole appeared to have some learning opportunities with “writing” on the state standards.   Specifically areas covered as “writing” in a multiple choice test.   I am sure the same writing standards that Twain, Hawthorne, London, Hemingway and Steinbeck all had to master before anyone would look at their manuscript.   You can those standards in details on this link.

Therefore Mrs. Cooper taught a great lesson today on synonyms.  We will have other lessons from Mrs. Cooper in the upcoming weeks reviewing some of these type of lessons that will help us as we approach the state test.

CNN students We talked about the terrible destructive weather that America had over the weekend.  We also wrote and talked about British Pratoleum’s almost 9 billion dollar settlement with the municipalities and companies negatively changed by their large oil spillage 2 years ago.  Finally they watched and learned about how African Americans may or may not vote as such a high level regarding President Obama.

Practicing our language arts test released questions.  We thoroughly read through two more stories and discussed our “because” statements.  The common theme regarding students that missed questions, the chose not to go back and find explicitly in the 1 to 1.5 page story the answer.   They were willing to settle for “it seemed logical,” “I thought I remembered it,”  and I forgot that there was a paragraph on that.

Math:
Preparing for our math test tomorrow.  We reviewed the chapter test, Thursday night’s homework, and the class kicked butt!!   We averaged 85% for the 15 questions which should be a great sign for tomorrow.
Use this link to access all the notes from the chapter and to get the answers for tonight’s practice test.

Prepare and plan for the upcoming week.  Students were given 20 minutes to write up this week’s homework and begin working on tonight’s homework.
