Monday #112 2011 2012

Day 112 of week 25

Happy Monday.  The sun was out before a series of clouds hits us over the next few days.

Spelling pretest.

CNN students -- More discussion about the unrest in Syria and the legitimacy of the upcoming Constitution changes.  This led to a great conversation about what does “superficial” mean.  We also wrote about and discussed Vladimir Putin and his desire to earn a third term as the Russian President.  Finally we talked about the absurdity of people going crazy for $220 Nikes high tops.

May test practice....we practiced as a class on strategically reading a passage and answer the six questions that go with it.  The class as a whole did extremely well.  On four of the questions we earned 92% or higher as a class.  We then had discussions on how some of the errors could have occurred and/or be avoided.

Math
Working with adding negative and positive integers.
Students reviewed our Thursday and Friday lessons.  They can solve these problems by either making “zero pairs” (e.g. - + ) or make a number line.
Tonight’s homework has them solving the problems by doing the odss with the “zero pairs” and the even problems with a number line.
See our notes for how I specifically want them to do the homework.
***since this can be a tad time consuming, students were given 50 minutes to work on tonght’s homework or work on IXL 6th grade adding/subtracting integers.

P.E.

Get Ready for the Week -- 20 minutes to write the homework for the week into the day planner.  We discussed what is due tomorrow and how to plan accordingly.

Circle Time -- Students had to answer this question, “Supposed that you got into significant trouble at home, what is one thing that your parents could take away from you that would hurt the most.”
Alas, I promised the class that I wouldn’t share their answers.

Kind regards,
