Monday #103 2011 2012

Week 23 and Day 103

Wow, we are getting some winter weather.  I didn’t think winter would ever show up this year.  It was cold and wet today.

Cnn students   -- Whitney Houston’s death was quickly covered.  True story, I took my mom for her birthday to a Whitney Houston concert in 1987.   More grim news about Syria and they described why international countries are struggling to protect the rebel Syrians.  Mitt Romney took the Maine primary this weekend.  Finally they talked about the melting of our north and south poles.  They showed current and historical NASA photos of our icecaps and where they were shrinking.

Curriculum Associates -- assessing out our state testing preparedness.

Theme Test 4 -- working on completing this as well.

Math -- %, fractions and decimals
We did literally 10 examples going from decimal to % and from % to decimal.
After the examples we watched the Brainpop on this lesson.
We then watched the Brainpop on banking interest and credit cards since they also talked about how interest rate is used.

***If you want to be blown away, ask your student about how a bank works and the banking/credit industry.  They watched and wrote about banking while watching the Khan Academy and then today we followed up with the Brainpop lessons.  Their written responses blew me away.

P.E. -- they had a substitute teacher and by all accounts some of the same characters made bad choices and made the teacher’s day a rough one.  Some students owe apology letters due tomorrow.

See my previous email about the requests for Valentine’s Day.

Kind regards,

Kind regards,

"There are two things that I want you to make up your minds to: first, that you are going to have a good time as long as you live - I have no use for the sour-faced man - and next, that you are going to do something worthwhile, that you are going to work hard and do the things you set out to do."
