Day 117 of week 28
District email was acting weird this weekend. Allegedly it was rejecting emails and on my end I could not log into it for a significant period of the weekend.
The entire district will be moving over to the Google sponsored email beginning in August. Therefore you can use the hubbardron AT dublinusd. net
No need to use dpride and Google keeps those things up pretty much 24/7
Report card information:
In regards to the sections of the report regarding grammar, improving writing, and various other grammar assessments. We have about four to five students who have been utilizing their time and their goal sessions wisely and have been putting in time on www.scootpad.com Therefore I gave what was essentially a pretest regarding those sections of the report card to see who could earn a 3 on the report card. There was a direct statistical cause/effect between those that had www.scootpad.com and those who waste time or choose not to. The point of this story? Twofold: 1. Those that www.scootpad.com WILL improve their grammar and vocabulary knowledge. 2. We have not taught all those lessons in class time yet therefore it is reasonable to assume they may have scored low.
Today -- more Johnny Tremain; He is trying to deal with life as a silversmith prodigy to existing with an inoperable hand.
Reports --
We had some really creative and thorough reports on Friday and today. Ryley did some creative, “outside the box” presentations that proved he enjoyed and learned from his book. The class today was able to enjoy his “radio advertisement” that he put together and they were still talking about his art/symbolism creation that he showed us on Friday. We also had Meghan amaze us with a well-written, well-defended and creative “classical” book reports. She did an amazing job with stating her opinion or analysis and then pulled out concrete examples from the books themselves. Wow!! Colin did a well-written and solid book report about the Hardy Boys. Similar to Meghan’s it was in the more classical style book report however he worked hard on each section making sure he had analysis or synthesized an idea and then went and made referenced sections/parts of the book that lead to that idea. He also had the best acrostic poem that I have seen in many years. He used the letters to make a statement that told about the story in the order they occurred in the story!!
Math --
% fractions and decimals
How are they all related? They can all be described as having equivalent values.
We also practiced 50%, 25% and 10% of a number. I shared how I am grateful that Grandma Hubbard taught me to pick up 10% at an early early age.
Fraction T.L.C. with Mrs. Cargo
Students that did not earn an 80% or higher on our fraction units are working independently on www.ixl.com or khanacademy while Mrs. Cargo will be teaching a 8 lesson unit “refresh” or “reanalyze” regarding fractions for those that scored 79% or lower.
Spelling pretest
Creating our own science study guides -- we began this on Friday. Teams of 6 are working on creating their own study guide and their own key to help them study for Friday’s test. The students collaborate, discuss correct answers and debate what would be an appropriate or reasonable question(s) that would be given by Mrs. Cargo.
