Thursday #105 2012-2013

Day 105 of week 25!!

What went down today?

More assessment time for those that have not quite finished our 3rd trimester ones.  Students that have completed their assessments were working on Scootpad, Ixl, analyzing their engrade work, working on their math/art projects  and Famous American research.

We began our initial Johnny Tremain reading!!!
You can have  a quick overview of this book by checking this out.

Then before recess Ms. Sandy distributed her homemade and yummy “mock apple pie.”   During one of our Lewis and Clark presentations, one of the students shared about various “old school” reciepes and they spoke about the apple pie that does NOT have apples in it.

“A mock apple pie, made from crackers, was possibly invented by pioneers on the move during the nineteenth century who were bereft of apples. In the 1930s, and for many years afterwards, Ritz Crackers promoted a recipe for mock apple pie using its product, along with sugar and various spices’       Found here.

Then the students had science with Mrs. Cargo learning about matter and metals.

Then the students had science with Mr. Hubbard where we discussed the basic model regarding atoms.  We even did some nice drawings of five different atoms.

After lunch the students had math/art.

When we returned we did a few real life examples of division with decimals.  Primarily they were examples with purchasing something and dividing it by the number of items that we purchased.  Here are the notes we have taken so far.

Cool things to ask your students:
1.  What is Johnny Tremain about?  What type of project do they think they will be doing?
2.  Describe what protons, neutrons, and electrons are...which one is positive, negative and neutral
3.  If they occur naturally at home, have them figure out the cost of things per item (use those division skills).

Kind regards,
Mr. Hubbard
