Day 107 of week 26!!!
What a beautiful Monday, not too cold, not too hot and a ton of glorious sun shining upon us.
Today the students began the day with PE. They are doing their annual fitness assessments. Today involved a ton of running and many of the kids returned to class bright red, thirsty and some were coughing. Don’t be surprised if they fall to sleep early tonight.
We continued our Johnny Tremain reading. Today we began learning a little bit more about Dove, Dusty, Johnny, and the Lapham family. We focused today regarding how reading can be greatly improved when we have fun asking questions or hypothesize what will happen next.
We are at the end of theme therefore we will be taking the Theme test on Friday, February 8th. The end of the theme spelling test will be on Tuesday, March 5th.
Here are the words they need to study.

Math
Today was more examples of everyday math challenges. Students are asked to solve budgetary, purchasing and selling type math questions.
We did several examples as a class and achieved: 83%, 100% and 86% on the three questions!!
Reviewing our most recent science assessment review. So far we are reviewing atoms and matter and the class is doing an amazing job.
Working on our self-directed goals related to our May testing.
We read the following article:
http://thetalentcode.com/2013/02/05/how-to-daydream-more-effectively/
We discussed what it means to make concrete steps and goals when you make a dream.
Tonight the students are to read a follow up article:

We then planned out the remainder of the week since we have many exciting things due this week.
The book project is due on Thursday.
Wednesday night is Math Night. It runs from 6 to 8 p.m. We have activities planned for the kids. We have classes & will take questions from the moms and dads in the adult section. I unfortunately have a basketball playoff game at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday night therefore I will only be there until 6:40’ish.
*Fyi students earn a homework pass if they show up on Wednesday night.
Friday is a ½ day and the entire school is celebrating the love of reading. Therefore students can wear comfortable clothing, school appropriate PJs, bring pillows/blankets, and definitely bring books to read. They must have shoes that allow for walking and being outside during recess. They may also bring microwaved popcorn or non-sugar based snacks.
Cool things to ask your students:
1. They had a drug awareness presentation by our Dublin police on Friday, what did they take from the presentation? What was it primarily about?
2. How is their book project coming along? Does it reflect the fact they had 3 months to work on it?
3. You could ask them about tonight’s math homework and how you used this type of mathematics on a daily/frequent basis.
Kind regards,
Mr. Hubbard
