Wednesday #138 2012-2013

Please remember to bring one of these tomorrow.

Happy 138 of week 32

Intel field trip is this Thursday (tomorrow).
Reminder: your son/daughter need to bring a bag lunch for Thursday
We are eating on the road therefore we will not have access to purchasing food.  If this  is a challenge let me know ASAP so I can have the school cafeteria create a bag lunch for your son/daughter however they do require a day’s notice.
Students may also, but are under no obligation whatsoever, bring money for the Intel souvenir shop.
Our time in the lab ends at 1:30.  Therefore we are going to try and see the entire museum prior to our laboratory time so we can hit the road around 2:00 at the very latest.  That way we can avoid the 680 traffic challenge and be back at school at the 2:50 end time.

The PFC auction is still going on until 9:00 p.m.
We have great bargains still available.  Also if your son/daughter would like to play miniature golf with me or if they would like to have a pizza lunch with me, both of those items are available.

Testing is almost here (with updated schedule).
Here is the schedule:
April 30th Language Arts
May 1st Language Arts
May 2nd Math
May 7th Math
May 8th Science
May 9th Science (I left this out yesterday)
All of them will happen from 10:30-12:30

Today -- math review of perimeter, area, and when do you use each one.

We then began correcting the grammar packets.  We are really trying to him home the importance of knowing our synonyms, antonyms, homographs and homophones.

We also spent a significant amount of time researching the released test questions related to science.  Students are able to use their chromebooks to research information they didn’t know off the top of their head.  It has been gratifying to work with many of them one on one and show them tips to using www.google.com and developing their searching skills.

Mrs. Cho also continued and doubled up with more geometry review during the Noon to 12:30 time.

We worked after lunch catching up on the science reading that is assigned and expected to be completely read by Tuesday.  Therefore students were given 50 minutes of class time to begin reading in their floppy science book or completing their study guide(s) that are also due on Tuesday.  The students worked diligently on this assignment and I was able to go around helping and questioning rather than babysitting.

Finally the last part of the day we discussed active transport within cells.  On Friday we will cover passive transport and students are encouraged to review that section in Brainpop prior to Friday’s lesson.

Remember to have your son/daughter bring a bag lunch  tomorrow.

Kind regards,
Mr. Hubbard

End of Year Meeting
Don’t forget next week (4/22/13 at 2:10 p.m. in Mrs. Cargo’s room)  we are having our end of the year meeting.  I understand people have concerns, opinions and suggestions for improving the current game plan.  Next week’s meeting promises to have all of the stakeholders in one room therefore we can best communicate and propose making any changes or improvements to the final week.
