Wednesday, October 1st

My two favorite non steroidal Giants were both Clarks.
Wednesday!!

A super quick one due to various meetings.

Interesting side note, the three field trip days does kind of set off the students a tad bit. By set off I mean it is a change from the normal school day and it is unique only having 16 kids in the room at one time.  On Monday the 16 left begin seemed even more sleepy than usual, while today’s bunch seemed more distracted than usual.  Plus we do have a tad bit of rerun where we recover some necessary information for those that were not here earlier in the day.

My two favorite non steroidal Giants were both Clarks
For those that traveled they brought back “double rainbow” glasses, results from their scavenger hunt and tales of explosions.  Make sure to ask your son/daughter regarding what they learned or experienced today.

For those “left behind” -- we did another lesson on deciphering the “main idea,” we reviewed our daily math, began discussing why we graph numbers/data sets, scootpad and working on our Constitution work.

All students returned during singing class so they were able to check in with Ms. Jones-Heinz.

The graphing and understanding the “why” and “how” combined with it being taught after lunch made for a challenging afternoon.   I believe by the end the students understood how to create their own graph, establish the X and Y axis, and will be able to graph the two problems that we did not due as a class.

We have also been enjoying a few “idioms” and discussing figurative vs literal language.  My hope is to have every 5th grader leave my class able to avoid the cringe-worthy mistake of every misusing “literally” (e.g. “I’m literally burning up” or “I’m literally getting hosed by this deal.”). Here is a performer that has been keeping us entertained as he takes English idioms too literal.

Kind regards,
Mr. Hubbard

Camp -- (December 15th-18th)
We need these forms completed by Friday please:
*This packet came with the Back to School Night packet

Also the school needs to confirm your child will be attending camp.  The cost/donation for this year is $200.  You do not need to pay the entire amount all at one time.  We will set up a payment plan (200/8 months = $25 per month).  There is also scholarship money however you will need to contact Ms. McGovern or myself at your earliest convenience.  We want every child to attend since it is such an amazing learning experience however you do need to communicate with us if you need payment assistance or scholarship.

10/16 5th Grade Camp Info Night for Parent/Guardians, Multi-use Room at 6:30 PM

Do you want to chaperone and help out during camp?  Here is a packet that tells you what it is all about.    If you are interested in helping there is a lengthy process involved regarding fingerprints and background checks therefore you need to see Mrs. Bastida ASAP to get the paperwork rolling.
